\nWaar ben jij, waar zijn je vrienden? Facebook Places<\/a> is eerder vandaag eindelijk officieel aangekondigd<\/a>. Wat is het precies en wat wat kun je ermee?<\/p>\n

Places<\/h2>\n

Facebook Places<\/a> (introductiepagina enkel beschikbaar in de V.S.) verschilt qua functionaliteit nauwelijks van bijvoorbeeld Foursquare. Door middel van een checkin kun je je vrienden laten zien waar je bent en wat je doet. Nieuw is dat je bij een checkin kunt aangeven welke van je vrienden ook aanwezig zijn. Door je vrienden te taggen bij een checkin, zijn al deze mensen automatisch ook ingecheckt op die locatie. Om te zien wie er in de buurt zijn is een nieuwe “People here now”-sectie toegevoegd.<\/p>\n

Facebook heeft voor Places deals gesloten met onder andere Booyah (MyTown), Gowalla en Foursquare. Wanneer je checkins vanuit deze diensten doorstuurt naar Facebook, zul je in Places worden getagd\/ingecheckt op de betreffende locaties. Ook met checkins verschijn je dus in de “People here now”-sectie.<\/p>\n

Geen games? Wel games?<\/h2>\n

In tegenstelling tot eerdere vermoedens zullen applicaties van externe ontwikkelaars voorlopig g\u00e9\u00e9n gebruik kunnen maken van de locatiedata binnen Facebook. Vogens deze bron komen er vooralsnog<\/a> geen locatie-gebaseerde games, mayorships of speciale aanbiedingen:<\/p>\n

Privacy<\/h2>\n

Geheel volgens verwachting laten de privacy-opties van Facebook Places ernstig te wensen over, gelukkig geven ze op het eigen blog wel aan dat ze er over hebben nagedacht. Erg jammer is dat elke gebruiker standaard alle gegevens met iedereen deelt en actief instellingen moet aanpassen om de eigen privacy te waarborgen. Ik kan me niet voorstellen dat iedereen het kan waarderen wanneer iemand anders<\/em> telkens aangeeft waar je bent (iets dat Foursquare<\/a> eerder deze week juist had opgelost).<\/p>\n

Tagging and Control
\nWith Places, you are in control of what you share and the people you share with. You choose whether or not to share your location when you check in at a place. When you check in, you can tag friends who are with you<\/strong> but only if their settings allow it. When you are tagged, you are always notified<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Je kunt bij een checkin dus aangeven met welke vrienden je daar bent. Normaal gesproken zien alleen je vrienden je locatie, tenzij je de instellingen aanpast:<\/p>\n

Only your friends<\/strong> can see when you visit or are tagged at a place, unless you have specifically set your master privacy control to “Everyone.” You also have the choice to set more restrictive customized settings<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wanneer iemand je tagged<\/em> op een locatie, krijg je daar altijd een melding van. Bij de eerste keer dat dat gebeurt kun je aangeven of je dit taggen<\/em> wel of niet op prijs stelt:<\/p>\n

When a friend tags you through Places, you will receive a notification on Facebook and on your mobile device. The first time this happens, you’ll be given the choice to allow your friends to check you in to places<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Taggen door vrienden komt feitelijk neer op inchecken. Vervelend is dat wanneer je je vrienden geen toestemming geeft om je in te checken, je nog steeds publiekelijk wordt getagged:<\/p>\n

When your friends check you in, it is as if you have checked in at that place yourself. You also will appear checked-in to your friends. If you do not allow friends to check you in, then when they tag you at a place, your name will appear in the same way it appears in a tagged status update. You will not appear checked-in at that place.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

En eventuele ongewenste tags moet je zelf handmatig verwijderen:<\/p>\n

You can always remove any Places check-in or tag using your mobile device or on the web. It’s like removing yourself from a photo tag. You also have the choice to turn off the ability for friends to check you in at Places. Go to your Privacy Settings and turn off the setting to “Let Friends Check Me In<\/strong>.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
